So I've realized that this profile hit 10,000 views.

And I hardly visit this site anymore. I've only visited this site on a bi-weekly basis or something.

And I haven't submitted anything since March.

Huh.

Really I'm doing this to get rid of my last journal entry that's over a year and a half old.

I started developing a game called Attention Deficit Espionage, which originally started as a project for #onegameamonth, but I got carried away with some of my ideas as well as real life interfering, that I planned it to be a 5 month process. It's a 1v3 multiplayer stealth game; one player playing the spy is tasked to infiltrate a corporation's headquarters to retrieve data, while three others play as guards to, well, guard.

I'm posting my development process here: mrsimmsmakegame.tumblr.com/

The last of the summer courses, which I'm planning it to be the last class I take at the current college I'm attending starts in about eight hours, and here I am typing a journal entry which no one will read, apparently.

So my younger sister got herself a new computer since the old one died after the motherboard's southbridge borked. We got ourselves a thing that allowed her to transfer data from the old hardrive to her new one. I got curious and decided to dig in the archives of the old hardrive that I haven't touched in over three years, so that I can witness the horror I've inflicted back then.

My findings resulted in old shit that can barely be accountable for my scrapbook, old fanfictions that are genuinely horrible that I'm embarrassed to mention about them (one of them was an old draft for Metroid Subzero), and some more shit that can probably make it in the scrapbook if I care enough.

So, expect to see more things in my (s)crapbook in the coming days as I continue to dig through the old hardrive, or just more music, and maybe a new cover design if I'm motivated to do it.

In music related news, I've began the process of writing lyrics to the songs for the EP. Yes, it's official that the project has evolved into an EP which people have the choice to pay and download, or just download for free if they please. I'm hoping to finish the project by mid September, but then life will always get in my way whenever I try to make deadlines.

Just keep an eye out for that, the album will be posted on bandcamp sometime soon, providing you with a link to it once it happens.

YES I HAVE AN IDEA.

Because of the substantial amount of movies I need to watch for film class (50 films), as well as a few programs I need to write, and a few creative writing prompts I need to pull out of my ass, I feel it is only necessary for me to design a single level game by the end of this month.

I'm in the process of writing a game document detailing a list of features I may include if I have extra time to spare. Then I will design the game using placeholder graphics and sound. Once the prototype is playable, I'll ask for a game artist to contribute their work for the game, since I can't draw to save my life.

CAN I DO IT? I HAVE NO CLUE
THIS WILL BE MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE YET
I CAN'T TAKE THE PRESSURE IT'S TOO MUCH

I participated at the Global Game Jam this year since I missed out on the last. It’s something very interesting to do, and it’ll expand my portfolio, so there really isn’t anything that can go wrong. 1/28/2011 5:00pm EST, the GGJ went underway. We basically wasted two hours discussing with the students about our skill sets before we were given our theme to work with. I found the game idea I wanted to work with along with the participating team, and at 7pm, we began our projects. It started out very strong, but then came a few roadblocks…

The problem was that the team that I was participating with was pretty much incompetent to work with. Our team was mostly made up of several artists and one programmer, which wasn't the most sound bunch because our team became so disorganized that the lead game designer couldn't control it. One of the artists had to leave early because he found out that his mother was involved in a serious car accident, and I felt sorry for him. A few other members were putting off work as well and really brought the game’s design process down substantially.

We had about 6 members in our team, with only four including myself actually sticking to the project. I designed some of the sprites (poorly), composing and recording the music with the help of another team member, as well as designing the logos and the menu screen for the game.  I really should have used Multimedia Fusion 2 to build the prototype; what could have been done on Multimedia Fusion 2 for 6 hours took more than a day when doing it from scratch.

Despite the shortcomings I’ve experienced at the GGJ, I had a really fun time there, and met some new friends by working on a few projects with them since I was running out of work. This was also the first time I’ve been part of a team rather than designing pitches and prototypes independently. I’ve learned plenty of things to consider in the future when designing games, so I’m glad I participated. Now I can actually get some sleep on my bed rather than curling up on a marble tiled floor in a sleeping bag, which I only got about 2 hours of sleep.

tl;dr: I had fun despite a few shortcomings, and it was a learning experience for me to work with those shortcomings.

In other news, the Protomen are performing at a venue that's not even 20 minutes away from where I live, which came as a very pleasant surprise, SINCE NO ONE WANTS TO COME TO NEW JERSEY. I can already imagine that seeing a band as masterful as the Protomen in such a small venue can produce one of those energetic, crazy, and possibly the most unforgettable moments of my life. They’re performing this March, and I seriously cannot wait to see them.

Also it's four in the morning, and there is no chocolate pudding.
Why the fuck am I still awake?

Looking back at some of the past journal entries made me cringe so much they had to be taken off. I don't know why I was so fucking retarded back then, which wasn't even a long time ago apparently, but that will not be discussed.

I have a few things planned out for the month long break from college. One of them is an event that I made up myself; "17 Games in 30 Days", an event in which I play and finish games I haven't even touched, starting with Sonic Colors - even though I've already cleared the first two acts of that game during the semester - and finishing off with the rage inducing challenge that is Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Sonic Colors
Zone of the Enders
Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner
Jak and Daxter
Jak 2
Jak 3
Mega Man X Command Mission
Mega Man X7
Mega Man X8
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
Baten Kaitos Origins
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice
Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry 2
Devil May Cry 3
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Also I'm debating whether or not I should make an EP album containing music I wrote during such times where I felt the need to do so. Since deviantART does not host sound files, I have had thoughts to submit my music through the use of Flash on this site, as well as Bandcamp. I've only made about three tracks that may or may not materialize into actual songs, and the rest of the 40+ tracks are basically very rough arrangements that definitely need improvement. Only time will tell, and by that I mean I don't know.

I felt that my journal needed an update, so it got an update.

I'm not likely to submit art on an abundant occasion since I need to focus on schoolwork. Also the "art" I do mostly revolve around image manipulations and vector designs, and I'm trying to get into traditional art to expand my creativity a little.

Right now, I'm designing a game prototype independently for a game development club to prepare myself for the 48 Hour Global Game Jam that's happening on January 28th through the 30th. I started doing one prototype based on the gameplay of Metroid, but I scrapped it because it wasn't coming out the way I wanted in the end. The new one should be interesting to develop as it is fun to play.

Doing the Global Game Jam will probably put myself into intravenous therapy, replacing the IV bags with coffee and dangerous stimulants to keep myself awake for those long 48 hours. This is a terrible idea, but really, what can possibly go wrong?

Hello everyone, how are thou on this fine evening? I have noticed that it has been two years since my last journal entry and about eight months since my last submission, which is to say I am not on here often. However because my username is pretty much unique, some people would go out of their way to google search my name to try to find the answer to questions I have been reluctant to answer for the past two years or so. My reluctance has brought to my attention that these fans are threatening to stab me, cannibalizing my body, and even forcing me to watch soap operas for three years.

...well not really. I love you guys.

The questions I receive all relate to "When will Metroid Subzero be finished?"
The answer to those questions is that I do not know when will the game be finished, nor am I setting up another deadline for myself unsure if I will be able to meet it in time. It could probably be released by the beginning of next year or by the time Duke Nukem Forever is released. College has not been kind with the time I budget, and the lack of motivation isn't helping either. I don't plan on scrapping the whole project though, since I've got a couple of people who are willing to help me develop the game.

Even though I receive about two page views per decade on DA because I am so popular, I decided to post this message anyway for those who do stumble upon this. I am prepared to withstand a lot of raeg ready to be thrown at me through hate mail. O_o

PHOA suit (Portable Heating Overlay Arsenal)
A protective layer that was found in a deep underground cavern. It protects Samus from the blistering cold that can freeze even the hottest sources and toughest metals. It uses up a new type of energy tank called the PHOA Tank.

PHOA Tank
A new type of energy tank discovered in a ruins of the planet. Used in conjunction with the new Suit upgrade. Finding expansions will add 50 units of heat to Samus' heat meter. It's containby a very rare type of fuel jel that is not common to any galaxy, and it won't freeze, even when it reaches absolute zero. The Fuel Gel also has a flashpoint of 8000 degrees F, making it rare to set onfire. Only a few planets, most of them undiscovered, have a natural source of this Fuel jel, Bryyo not included.

Ice Cleats
Prevents slipping on massive amounts of ice. Allows you to use the Speed Booster on ice.

So with the help of some of my friends from VGboxart, I was able to get most of the story rewritten, and it's what I call "Metroid Style".

Metroid is all about backtracking in the same areas with different items. Usually what happens in a Metroid game is whenever you're in a room and you see something obtainable but yet you cannot get it, you know you'll have to come back for it later after you obtained an item that allows you to reach it. Metroid is all about exploration, and backtracking, so the story has been changed and hopefully, it will not go into another fucking rewrite state!! >:E

Now for truth, I do not actually know when I will be actually done with this game, but what i do know is it is not going to be finished by the end of this year. Fiddlesticks...

However, if I am done with a level or two, I'll probably make it into a seprate demo for all of you eager to test it out. Note that the demo isn't made for entertainment purposes, they will be made for testing purposes, for those willing to playtest them and give me an honest criticism.

The Game and the demos will be posted on this site:
metroidr.brpxqzme.net/

I'm gonna be on AIM tonight so anyone willing to chat with me can do so. However, I won't be giving away my AIM address for free. If you want to chat with me, send me a note, and I'll probably tell you my AIM screename.

P.S.: If you are a hater of Slipknot, I really don't care, I like what I'm listening to, you cannot change it.

On VGboxart, I told everyone that I was putting my game on hold because of my busy life. Now that I've gotten some of my grades back up, I'm ready to start again!

The game Metroid SubZero might be released in Late Spring 2008* on the Metroid Fan Mission Site: metroidr.brpxqzme.net/

* Delays could be possible
